We are busy forging relationships across the state of Iowa and gathering archival materials for our collections. What are we collecting?
As the community archives for LGBTQ history in Iowa, we collect any archival materials relevant to Iowans and Iowa-based LGBTQ organizations.
What do we mean by “Iowans”?
Any and all LGBTQ people who are from, living in, or have lived in the state of Iowa.
What do we mean by “Iowa-based LGBTQ organizations”?
Any and all organizations that have existed in Iowa that advocate for, provide community space for, or are built by LGBTQ people. Types of organizations may include, but are not limited to, community centers, clubs, activist organizations, support groups, book groups, and student organizations (junior high, senior high, or college).
What do we mean by “archival materials”?
Any paper documents, objects, or audio visual materials from the following lists:

- Flyers/posters
- Brochures/pamphlets
- Books
- Scrapbooks
- Yearbooks
- Certificates/awards
- Local Magazines
- Dissertations: This would also include the work, or notes for the project
- Research related to Iowa’s LGBTQ History
- Interview transcripts
- Protest signs

- Board games (with an LGBTQ focus)
- Awards/trophies (sashes, medals, crowns, ribbons, plaques)
- Signage (acceptance of donation based on size and available storage space)
